The Lizard in The Sun

lies on the back patio
motionless.
Ants crawl past and over him
as if he were some boulder
dropped in their path.
They don’t seem to mind very much.
They don’t stop and worry and wonder
about which path to take,
and if they are taking the right path,
they just keep moving.
It is a good lesson to learn.
I have let myself trip
over too many lizards
never to get up again.
