Soldiers Of War

In my garden
the green tops of daylilies
are shooting up,
standing tall and erect
like little toy soldiers
on their way to war.
They were lied to,
tricked into believing it was Spring
by the warm Southern winds.
But now the air has grown cold.
Winter is here
and they have no where to go
to escape.
